Teaching History: I’ve been teaching for 3 years, and started out as an assistant for a few years before that whilst I was a student.
Degrees, certifications, professional memberships, or advanced training:
I’m very excited to be beginning a Diploma in Health Science in June!
My favorite kinds of classes or lessons to teach are:
I love teaching all different age groups and styles each for their own reasons, but I would say that my favourite style to teach would be Contemporary. Each area of dance offers its own benefits, but I find that due to the nature of Contemporary dance, students have more freedom in these classes to find their own individuality and creativity as a dancer. In particular, I feel that Contemporary improvisation exercises give the students the most freedom to express themselves and gain confidence in themselves, their bodies and their dancing.
Favorite hobbies when I’m not teaching:
In my free time I love doing yoga, listening to music, reading, going on walks in nature and going to the beach.
One of the funniest or most unusual things I’ve ever done or experienced is…
I can’t pick just one thing, but I guess I’ll say that most of the funniest things I’ve ever done have been with my sister, Zoe. Zoe and I always have an awesome time together, and she’s always been able to make me laugh no matter what!
Something interesting that you might not know about me is that…
I am qualified to provide Reiki Healing, and have a strong passion for anything esoteric and holistic!
Why I love teaching:
My favourite thing about teaching (other than all the laughs and fun that we have at Dance Energy!) is seeing my students grow – not only as dancers but personally, too. It is always so rewarding and exciting to see my students learn new skills such as how to set goals and be diligent in working towards them, how to be able to improvise and express their creativity, having confidence in themselves, and how to work as a team. Being able to provide a fun and educational space each week for my students that allows them to grow by learning new skills is the most significant reason why I love teaching so much.
