Name: Ricci

Teaching History: I started out as a student teacher when I was only 14 and assisted at my local studio for 3 years. At 17 I started taking my own classes and have now been teaching dance for 8 years. I am also currently in my second year of teaching at Caloundra State Primary School.

Degrees, certifications, professional memberships, or advanced training: I have a Bachelor of Theatre specialisation Music Theatre and a Graduate Diploma of Learning and Teaching.

My favourite kinds of classes or lessons to teach are: I love teaching Jazz as it is my personal favourite style of dance but even more so I love teaching Music Theatre! Every lesson we have so much fun and are in constant fits of laugher. Everyone is so encouraging and supportive of each other that each lesson I can see students confidence and personalities blossom.

Favourite hobbies when I’m not teaching: More than anything I love spending time with my family going to the beach, having picnics or BBQ’s. Also, any chance I get I love going out for breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee, morning tea, afternoon tea or anything in-between!

One of the funniest or most unusual things I’ve ever done or experienced is… This question was SO hard to answer which makes me feel like I have been living under a rock. The only thing that came to mind which was funny for others but embarrassing for myself was showing off to a group of people that I could do a split jump and land in the splits but it resulted in me splitting my pants.

Something interesting that you might not know about me is that… I am really interested in stage management. Miss Claire please don’t get any ideas haha. I would love to do course in stage management but after 5 years of study I think my brain and my bank account need a rest.

Why I love teaching: What I love most about teaching is seeing students grow in their abilities and confidence and knowing that you have played apart in it. I also love concert time! I love the backstage excitement that not only that comes from the kids but also the adrenalin of quick changes, costume malfunctions or frantically looking for kids who wandered off 2 minutes before going on stage! I love seeing a production come together after all the hard work that goes into it, and seeing students shine!
